(SNO) — Videos reportedly showing a Saint Lucian man being rescued at sea has surfaced on social media.
The rescued man is said be a 30-year-old Marigot resident called ‘Benji’.
“Benji glad you are OK. Really stupid move on your part, you could have been killed, didn’t know you were into fishing,” remarked a woman on a Facebook post.
Law enforcement and emergency sources said following his rescue by a L’Express des Iles vessel, ‘Benji’ was transported by ambulance to Victoria Hospital in stable condition.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service received the emergency call from the ferry service around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to sources, the rescued man was among three males who left Gros Islet, Saint Lucia on Monday around 10 p.m. on a “fishing expedition” when their boat developed mechanical issues and was capsized by a large wave.
They were on their way from St. Vincent and the Grenadines when the accident occurred, sources said.
Sources further reported that ‘Benji’ alleged that he managed to hold on to items from the capsized boat while his companions later disappeared in the darkness.
Officials from Saint Lucia and Martinique are reportedly searching for his missing companions.
