(SNO) – Saint Lucia went down to a third consecutive loss in the 2021 FIBA Americup Pre-qualifier in Paramaribo, Suriname on Wednesday. This time, the national men’s team lost by 19 to Windward Islands neighbours St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 80-61.

For much of the matchup, the 0-2 Saint Lucians kept things close with the 0-2 Vincies, taking an early lead and tying things up twice thereafter. But from 2:50 in the third quarter, with scores 49-47, it was all St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

For the first time, Saint Lucia ws outrebounded in this tournament, giving up 44 boards whilst grabbing just 38. They were also outshot for the first ytime, hitting 38% of their field goals, whilst their opponents made 45%.

But again, the turnover bug hit Saint Lucia big time. They coughed the ball up 25 times, leading directly to 25 points for SVG, who also led in fast break points, points in the paint, bench scoring, and secnd chance points.

Yandell Denis and Keegan Preville led Saint Lucia with 11 points each. Dennis, though, had his least efficient game, hitting just three of his 12 field goal attempts, whilst adding five assists, five rebounds… and five turnovers.

Marcian Calderon led Saint Lucia in field goal attempts with 15, but he only converted five of those, for 10 points. The big man also led the team in rebounding with eight, whilst Andre Louison added six.

Chrisford Telesford made 19 for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Phillip Lawrence-Ricks contributed 12, and five players had at least five rebounds. Saint Lucia’s last group game is against Guyana.
