A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Saint Lucia (SLU).

At 5:00 p.m. today, center of Tropical Storm Beryl is located near latitude 12..7 north, longitude 52.7 west or 565 miles or 900 km east southeast of Saint Lucia.

The system is moving toward the west-northwest (295 degrees) near 17 mph or 28 km/h.

On this projected path, the center of the system is expected to pass north of Saint Lucia, near Dominica, late Sunday night.

A west-northwest motion with increased forward speed is expected during the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h with higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center.

Interests elsewhere in the Lesser Antilles should continue to monitor the progress of Beryl, as additional watches could be required for other islands later today.

Heavy rainfall is expected during the passage of Tropical Storm Beryl and persons living in areas prone to flooding and landslides should take all necessary precautions against these hazards from Sunday.
