(SNO) – Saint Lucia are just one game away from being crowned queens of sub-regional age group netball for the sixth time.

The 2018 Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) / Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Under-23 Netball Tournament resumed on Wednesday night in Basseterre’s Pam Tyson Netball Stadium. The highlight of the evening’s action was a clash between the only two unbeaten teams in the competition, Saint Lucia and the home team, St. Kitts.

Saint Lucia dominated the early exchanges and never took their foot off the gas, eventually earning a 44-38 victory. Going into the final quarter, Saint Lucia led 35-24, and it was then that the hosts truly began to apply pressure, putting up 17 shots in the fourth, but converting only 11. Saint Lucia, by contrast, attempted a mere 10 shots in that stanza, but nine of them counted toward the final score.

Efficiency was the name of the game for Saint Lucia. For the first time in four games, they were outshot, St. Kitts putting up 65 shots in total, whilst Saint Lucia had only 59. But Ianna Hippolyte missed only four of her 23 shots, whilst Dasha Eugene made 25 of 36.

Saint Lucia’s last hurdle to the title they last won in 2014 is St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who beat Antigua and Barbuda 37-13 on Wednesday night. Dominica also thrashed Nevis 64-26.
