(SNO) – More than 4,000 track and field fans turned out on Wednesday for the 17th Meeting International de la Province de Liège in Belgium – a European Athletics Outdoor Classic Permit Meeting.
The meet ended with the AG high jump, a spectacular high jump competition in which competitors formed a semicircle around the athlete on the runway.
With Olympic and world heptathlon champion Nafissatou Thiam a late withdrawal, Italy’s Elena Vallortigara won the high jump on count back from Saint Lucia’s Levern Spencer, 1.91m the best height for both women.
With a clearance of 1.86m, Levern’s fellow Saint Lucian, Jeanelle Scheper, was fifth at Naimette-Xhovémont.
