(SNO) — More than a year after establishing roots in Saint Lucia the artificial intelligence and call centre entity known simply as OJO Labs is still a thorn in the side of the main opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP).
Opposition Leader Philip J, Pierre, at his press conference yesterday (Oct. 2), said his party is still in the dark about OJO Labs and still has questions it needs answers for, regarding the company.
OJO Labs had partnered with the government to provide employment and training to young people in the south of the island in the areas of artificial intelligence.
The company is primarily a call centre but will be training about 200 young people in the branch of computer science known as artificial intelligence.
According to Pierre, his party wants to know how exactly taxpayers’ money is disbursed at OJO Labs, claiming that it was important to know.
“We want to find out from the Minister of Finance who bought the NIC bonds. We still need to find out how much money is disbursed at OJO Labs. What are the exact amounts, not estimates” Pierre said.
“How much is paid to wages, how much is paid to salaries, how much is paid for rent, how much is paid for utilities? I am such that the numerous small businessmen in the country want to know that because they have problems in their rent, they have problems in their wages, but having said so I’m still not sure what is happening at OJO labs. We have never been invited; as usual we’ve been kept out of that,” Pierre said.
He reiterated that his party’s biggest concern is how taxpayers’ monies are being disbursed at OJO labs.
