(SNO) – Saint Lucia’s top volleyballer Julian Bissette has moved on from Romanian champions, Tricolorul LMV Ploiești.
The 27-year-old middle blocker has enjoyed a huge successful season in Divizia A1, the men’s top Romanian professional volleyball league. With Tricolorul, he picked up three titles, including the club’s first-ever league cup, but now the 198 cm, 92 kg Babonneau native is on the move again.
The young man is transferring to this year’s second-placed club, Arcada Galați.
Under manager Neculai Harabagiu, he is set to play with a truly multicultural squad, including members from Montenegro, Lithuania, Greece, Serbia, Macedonia, Brazil, and Bulgaria.
Head coach Nikolay Jeliazkov and the Arcada faithful will be hopeful that Julian can help bring a first-ever title to the Sala Sporturilor “Dunărea.”
It was a double swoop for Arcada, as they also added 29-year-old Venezuelan setter, Carasco Angulo.
Julian’s teammate last season at Tricolorul, he played in the last two seasons in Ploiesti and has previously been with teams in Finland, Cyprus and Lebanon. He has played in the World Championship, World Cup and World League with the Venezuelan national team.
In the final of the Romanian Cup, Tricolorul LMV defeated Arcada Galați 3-2 and completed the league double. Julian had 14 points (7/11 attacks, 6 blocks and 1 ace). Tricolorul won 25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-9.
Julian and his wife, Domna, are expecting their first child this year.
