(SNO) – Saint Lucian, Caribbean, and international swimmers are being encouraged to sign up for a burgeoning endurance event next month.
The third annual BodyHoliday 1 Mile Swim with Keri-anne Payne and David Carry will see swimmers of all abilities competing for fun in this stunning Caribbean location. Starting and ending on the resort’s pristine beach, the race on November 10th 2018, will take place in the beautiful turquoise waters of Cariblue Bay.
Keri-anne Payne, two-time World Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist and husband David Carry, two-time Commonwealth Champion and three-time Olympian, and Dan Wallace gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will be at BodyHoliday leading up to the 1 Mile Swim offering morning beach fitness classes to guests as well as leading a bespoke open water swimming programme.
The BodyHoliday 1 Mile Swim is equivalent to 64 lengths of a 25 meter pool. The average completion time is 45 minutes. The one mile race will start on the north side of the Cariblue Beach. Swimmers will swim out and back twice in an M-shape style finishing on the south side of the beach. To see the photos and results from 2017, click here.
The minimum age for entry is 16 years.
In addition to the resort’s WellFit Programme in November 2018, Keri-anne and David will be offering SwimFit, a special 4-day programme for guests of any swimming ability who want to improve their technique, efficiency, and speed.
Keri-anne Payne is a British swimmer, specializing in marathon open water swimming, and long-distance freestyle swimming in the pool. She is a two-time World 10 km Open Water champion, and an Olympic silver medalist.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Keri-anne won the silver medal in the inaugural 10 km marathon swim. As one of the most memorable events of the Beijing Olympics, the marathon swim led to an explosion of public interest and participation in open water swimming events in the UK and worldwide.
David Carry, Keri-anne’s husband, is a two-time Commonwealth Champion who also represented Great Britain in the Olympics, FINA world championships and the European championships. He competed internationally in freestyle and medley swimming events. He is the winner of seven medals in major international championships.
