(SNO) — The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) in collaboration with the Castries City Constituency has unveiled plans to bring what they say is the joy of the Christmas Season to Saint Lucia.
A press launch for the “December Festivals” was held earlier this week.
One of the highlights of the event is the Latern Competition in which up to $1,500 is up for grabs.
The CDF is encouraging Saint Lucians to let their creative juices flow to participate in the Lantern Competition.
“We are encouraging individuals out there to put their creative juices to work in creating masterpieces that will wow the judges and register to participate in the Lantern Competition,” Raymona Henry-Wynne, executive director of the CDF, said. “Together, let’s make it bigger and better in 2018.”
Organizers of the festival are promising a bigger and better event this year.
Some of the activities include a tree lighting ceremony followed by a parade of lanterns.
Additionally, every roundabout in Castries will be decorated and lit.
Certain areas within and outside the capital will also be decorated this year with each area portraying a different theme.
Some of these areas include Serenity, Constitution and Hero’s Park.
To encourage business owners to decorate their business places within the city, there will be a Mayor’s Prize for the best decorated establishment.
Other activities on the cards throughout December include a ‘Boulevard Jam,’ greasy poles at George the Fifth Park, a skateboard exhibition, canoe races and the Festivals of Carols in Morne Repos.
