(SNO) — Expressions of sympathy have been pouring out on social media for a Good Samaritan in connection with a situation in which an elderly woman is suspected to have succumbed to injuries sustained in a freak vehicular accident last year.
Reports are that Veronica Prospere, who is in her mid to late 70s, died on Tuesday morning, Jan. 15 from injuries sustained in the accident in December in Fond St. Jacques, Soufriere.
At the time, the elderly woman was reportedly given a lift by the Good Samaritan, but tragedy struck as soon as the elderly passenger arrived at her destination. While disembarking the vehicle, the vehicle reversed and hit the woman, causing her to sustain a broken hip, fractured ribs, and abrasions.
The injured woman died in hospital on Tuesday.
On social media, the majority of comments on the incident indicated support for the Good Samaritan.
“Oh man this is sad. Just trying to do a good deed,” said one person commented, with another adding “Omg that driver must be devastated.”
One other person described the incident as “heartbreaking” and “pray God strengthens” the driver.
“The poor driver! He tried doing a good deed and this freak accident happens. He must be taking it really hard,” another said.
